    Very readable book about Lebanon/Israel/Palestine during the 80’s and early 90’s and Friedmans time there.

    Dense and scholarly tour of the Middle East from the beginning of time to the present.

    All the Shah’s Men, by Stephen Kinzer

    Detailed account of the coup in Iran in ‘52 orchestrated by the newly formed CIA and its consequences 25 years later.

    See No Evil, by Robert Baer

    Although not about the Middle East it serves as a backdrop of this biography of a CIA case officer. The movie Syriana was based on this book.

    Sleeping with the Devil, by Robert Baer

    Similar stuff as the previous book. After leaving the CIA, Baer digs into the shadier side of the oil industry. Elements from this book are also seen in Syriana.
